Apollo 13

Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise were launched on the third mission to the Moon on April 11, 1970. The mission ran into serious trouble on the 13th, however, when an oxygen tank exploded and seriously damaged the Service Module. The entire nation kept vigil via the national media while NASA worked to bring the astronauts home safely. On April 17, a relieved nation watched the Apollo 13 Command Module splash down in the Pacific and all three astronauts emerge safely.
