Comet Arend-Roland Discovered by Sylvain Arend and Georges Rolland at Uccle, Belgium, on November 8, 1956, Comet Arend-Rolland was best viewed from Earth in April and May 1957. The most striking feature of this comet was a sunward-directed spike observed on April 23, 25, and 28. That spike was actually an effect of perspective, of seeing edgewise a fan of debris that was actually scattered behind the comet along its orbit. SOURCE |
